lilac lace shawl

This gorgeous shawl was knitted by Janette using Fyberspates Gleem Lace. It's so delicate with an all over lace pattern and light lilac colour (shade 724 - Heavenly).

Designed by Anniken Allis the pattern is part of a book from Chester Wool celebrating their undyed yarns. And it's also available to buy as a single pattern on Ravelry.

I believe Janette only used one hank of Gleem Lace but if you're worried about running out and your tension does not match the pattern then you may want to get two hanks.

It's a versatile shape. Looking light and delicate when worn opened out but more cosy and substantial when bundled up.

The subtle shades of Gleem allows the lace patterning to shine.

As a lace shawl Effra will need a good blocking to open up the holes and let the pattern show. You can read more about blocking at Tin Can Knits and Ysolda.

Tin Can Knits also have a good tutorial on lace knitting (and some free lace patterns too).

And Effra's designer Anniken Allis has lots about lace knitting techniques on her website.

Effra has written and charted instructions. If you want to learn how to use charts for lace knitting check out this Tin Can Knits article.

We have a range of lace books too - with photographic tutorials and patterns. You can find them in our Lace Book collection.
