pom pom tree in shop window

Our new window display is in the Pittenweem shop.

Featuring 150 pom poms this tree is not just for Christmas!

Tricky to capture (especially on an overcast day in October in Scotland) this photo shows the tree off alongside some of the yarns and knitted samples we have in the shop.

Read below for all the details...

pom pom tree with details

1. A baby Flax Light. This is a free pattern from Tin Can Knits (you can get it here). We've used Opal sock yarn in Hundertwassers shade 2101. You only need one 100g ball for the first two sizes. As usual for Tin Can Knit patterns the size range is HUGE, from 18" up to 66.5" so you can knit a family of sweaters. The patterning in a self-patterning sock yarn works best on the smallest sizes... as you have more stitches the patterning changes. Flax Light is knitted seamlessly from the top down and a wee baby jumper is the perfect introduction to this technique. Oh. And there's a quicker knit aran weight Flax too.

2. A stripey sock. Using Socks Yeah 4ply in 3 shades this basic sock has contrast cuff, heel and toes and 2 row stripes. This is the simple sock pattern we have in the shop but any basic pattern will do. The colours are Sphene, Danubrite and Melanite. You need one hank of each for a pair of socks. You don't need to cut the yarn for the stripes. Just carry the unused colour loosely up the inside.

3. Dandelion and Mohair Cowl.

4. West Yorkshire Spinners Signature sock yarn - all the Christmas shades.

5. The only ready-to-wear knitwear you can buy at The Woolly Brew. Designed, machine knitted and hand finished by Sue (aka Woollen Wave).

6. The Opal 4ply sock yarn collection. There's one more collections to come this year plus a 6ply and 8ply range too!

7. Not Just For Christmas Tree. 150 pom poms made using Clover pom pom makers.
