knitting projects from the woolly brew

Based on social media likes and chat in the shop these are the projects that generated the most buzz in 2020.

Our Simple Blanket was a new free shop pattern in 2020. Knitted in Rowan Baby Cashsoft Merino the original blanket used shades of pink and denim. As the shop is now online too I made up some colour combos to make it easier to visualise a different colour palette. This version, knitted by Cindy, uses the Brights option and looks amazing. A great alternative to a pastel baby blanket. You can read more about the original blanket here and buy your own Simple Blanket kit here.

The Moonwake Cowl, designed by Andrea Mowry, was a huge hit. Knitted in the fabulous Socks Yeah DK it features a graphic stranded colourwork pattern in a super cosy tube cowl. Again to help you see colour options more easily I made up some kits. If you just need the pattern, it's available to buy on Andrea's website and on Ravelry. You can read more about our Moonwake and get all the links here.

Garter Squish is a  great project to use up leftovers. I'm using 4ply, mostly sock yarn, holding 4 strands together and using a 6mm circular needle (you need the circular needle for the number of stitches). This is my 5th Garter Squish. I finished it in March and in April I started another one - it's a very relaxing and comforting knit and perfect for colder months. You can see the free pattern on Ravelry here.

Playground was started in 2019 and finished in 2020. I used a Zauber Flower and the short rows really show off the long runs of colour. You can read more about our Playground here. It includes lots of work in progress photos too. Our Zauber Flower collection is here.

Goldwing is a striking yoked jumper designed by Jennifer Steingass. If you like this style of jumper, Jennifer has a huge pattern collection available on Ravelry, see them here. This Goldwing was knitted by Sabine. She used the supersoft and versatile Socks Yeah DK. Buy your own Goldwing pattern on Ravelry here and see our Socks Yeah DK collection here.

Papillon, knitted by Caroline, is a show stopping shawl using Zauberball and Socks Yeah 4ply. Using a self striping yarn means you need to plan each area of colour but the pattern is very detailed so you could plan you're own colour scheme if you like! You can read more about Caroline's Papillon in the Gallery.

Scrappy Socks is another leftover project. This time the pattern was released by designer Rachel Coopey on Instagram. I had a few issues as one of the stitch patterns ended up too tight for me and I had to reknit part of the leg! You can read more about these Scrappy Socks in our monthly blog series - Work In Progress. Rachel has also released a new sock Knit A-Long pattern on Ravelry too - Joyeux

The Shift is another stunning project from Sabine and another design from Andrea Mowry. A pointy cowl -  you start knitting back and forth and then join in the round for a practical cowl with a shawl effect. Sabine used Rowan Felted Tweed. A great leftover project - she used about 120g in total. You can buy The Shift pattern on Andrea's website and on Ravelry and see our Rowan Felted Tweed collection here.

Frankensock - a project idea for our Mini Ball Bag kits, this sock is knitted using 6 different mini balls of Opal 4ply sock yarn. I split each ball in two, so that I would get a pair of socks that look similar, but also so I could pack as many colours and patterns into one sock. I used a simple pattern, a free one we have in the shop. There are also lots of patterns available online. My current favourite one is by Meaghan Schmaltz and is available on Ravelry. You can see more ideas for Mini Balls in our Gallery here.
